STORM RESOURCE CENTER

MARACOOS and our partners are tracking storms and collecting data related to storms and other extreme events impacting the East Coast. Using data derived from gliders, drifters, buoys, models, radars, satellites, and weather stations to analyze ocean dynamics we are better able to predict impacts in the Mid-Atlantic as storms and weather systems move through the region.

Dr. Hugh Roarty (MARACOOS, Rutgers) shared how real-time ocean data from HF radar, gliders, and buoys supports vessel navigation, spill response, and harbor safety at the Bayonne Harbor Safety meeting, strengthening connections between ocean science and the Port of New York and New Jersey’s operations.

OCEANSMAP

MARACOOS OceansMap is a dynamic data visualization tool integrating near real-time observational assets and model forecasts that contribute to ocean monitoring in the Mid-Atlantic region. Users can easily filter parameters of interest and compare model and observation data both graphically and statistically.
