Metagrid

Metagrid is a networking initiative developped by Dodis, on behalf of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW). It is designed to connect metadata and resources of research projects throughout the humanities and social sciences. The initial Metagrid initiative ?Metagrid Classic? started in 2010, with the aim of linking databases containing information about historical persons. Over the years the federative system of Metagrid grew and it relies currently on about 35 projects which make their data available and share it with one another. Metagrid took over the histHub networking initiative supportet by swissuniversities, linking multiple entities. As part of the Dodis AI Initiative, in 2025 Dodis developed a new tool for the Metagrid network: the ?Metagrid-Plugin? is a smart browser extension that recognises and displays thematically related content from connected websites. By connecting content on thematic scale, the Metagrid-Plugin becomes a heuristic tool for researchers and scholars in search of new and innovative ways to use and explore scientific content and data.
